Monte San Calogero

Monte San Calogero rises to 1326 meters between the towns of Termini Imerese, Caccamo, and Sciara in the province of Palermo, offering views of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The eastern base of the mountain features a megalithic wall of substantial thickness, known as Mura pregne, which protected an ancient prehistoric settlement.

The mountain holds religious significance as Saint Calogero resided in its cliffs, where according to local accounts he banished demons from the area and nearby thermal baths.

The mountain trail presents a T3 difficulty level for hikers, requiring proper equipment and physical preparation for the ascent through limestone and dolomite formations.

At the summit stands a church dedicated to Saint Calogero, where a stone statue of the saint remained until its displacement into the Canalone del Diavolo ravine.
