Montemarcello, Historic village in Ameglia, Italy.

Montemarcello is a historic village in Ameglia situated at around 266 meters above sea level within the Regional Natural Park of Montemarcello-Magra, defined by stone buildings and narrow winding streets. An old tower and traditional stone architecture throughout the settlement illustrate the medieval character and construction methods of the community.

The village name references Roman consul Claudio Marcello, who defeated the local inhabitants in 155 BC during Rome's territorial expansion in this region. The medieval settlement that developed here later grew from this ancient foundation and presence.

The parish church of San Pietro displays notable artworks from different centuries that reflect the artistic traditions of the community. These pieces show how religious art was valued and preserved over time in this small settlement.

Visitors enter the village through a 15th-century gate that marks the main access to the settlement. From there, various pathways lead through the streets offering views of historic structures throughout the area.

From the Punta Corvo viewpoint, visitors can take in the entire Gulf of La Spezia and the marble quarries of the Apuan Alps visible in the distance across the landscape. This single vantage point connects the sea, the village, and the regional mountain industries in one sweeping view.
