San Francesco

San Francesco is a Baroque church in Lerici with a large central nave supported by six pillars. The interior features a high ceiling and several marble altars arranged throughout the space.

The current structure was built in 1632 on the site of an earlier church and was consecrated in 1636 by Bishop Giovanni Domenico Spinola. This rebuilding reflects how the community updated its religious spaces during the 17th century.

The church holds artworks that reflect the spiritual values of the community and its connection to religious devotion. These pieces show how art was woven into the daily religious life of the people who gathered here.

The church is located near Lerici's center and is easily accessible on foot from the town's main area. Visitors can reach it without difficulty from the surrounding streets.

A striking white marble statue of Saint Francis stands in the semicircular choir area and was created in 1797 in Carrara. This figure represents fine stone carving work from that era.
