The Castle of San Terenzo rises from a promontory with stone walls overlooking the Gulf of La Spezia and features a square defensive tower.
The castle originated from a 12th-century guard tower, later expanded by the Republic of Genoa in 1605 as part of the Gulf's defense network.
The entrance of the castle displays an inscription that reads 'Unique in the entire world, the people built a castle' emphasizing community involvement.
The museum opens on weekends from 10:30 to 13:00 and 15:30 to 18:00, with adult tickets costing 3 euros and free entry on first Sundays.
During World War II, German forces used the castle as a strategic military position, converting it into a photoelectric station for monitoring naval movements.
