Palazzo Pica Alfieri, Baroque palace in L'Aquila, Italy.
Palazzo Pica Alfieri is a Baroque palace in L'Aquila with a three-part facade, a columned loggia, and two entrance doors. The building has a rectangular floor plan organized around a large inner courtyard.
The palace was purchased in 1685 by Ludovico Alfieri and was fundamentally redesigned by architect Francesco Fontana following the devastating earthquake of 1703. This redesign gave the building its current Baroque appearance.
Inside you can find an art gallery displaying works by Italian painters arranged throughout the rooms and inner courtyard. The collection reflects the region's artistic traditions that developed over time.
The palace is open to the public and has been restored after extensive work on its structure and interiors. Visitors should check current opening hours and plan visits accordingly.
Before this palace stood a Renaissance building where Queen Giovanna of Aragon stayed in 1493. That earlier residence was known as the Palace of the Count of Montorio.
