Brughiera sanctuary

The Brughiera sanctuary consists of two churches nestled in the Biella region of northern Italy at roughly 800 meters in elevation. The buildings occupy a mountain location connected to other regional religious sites through walking paths and pilgrimage routes.

The original structure dating to the 14th century initially served as a shelter for followers of Fra Dolcino before the smaller church was built in the 16th century. This transformation shows how the location shifted its religious purpose over time.

The larger church inside displays many votive offerings, frescoes across the nave and presbytery, and a wooden pulpit of artistic value. These works reflect the devotion of pilgrims who have sought out this location over centuries.

The sanctuary remains open to visitors year-round, with warmer months being ideal for the mountain walk to reach it. Proper hiking shoes and water are essential, as access involves walking through mountain terrain.

Local records document an event on March 25, 1643, when multiple gunshots were fired nearby without causing injury to anyone. Residents attribute this occurrence to divine protection.
