Rifugio Città di Fiume, Mountain hut in Borca di Cadore, Italy.
Rifugio Città di Fiume is a mountain shelter in Borca di Cadore, located at 1917 meters elevation below the Pelmo, Pelmetto, and Civetta peaks. The hut provides 23 beds distributed across four rooms, some arranged as single beds and others as bunks.
The hut emerged in 1964 from an old pastoral structure that was originally a 17th-century cowshed. This conversion transformed a working alpine farm building into a modern mountain shelter.
The hut serves regional dishes from Veneto kitchens, prepared with seasonal ingredients sourced from local farmers in the surrounding area. Guests can enjoy traditional mountain meals in a shared dining space.
Access requires sturdy footwear and sure-footedness, as trails are steep and uneven in places. Visitors should bring weatherproof clothing and know that the hut may be less accessible during winter months.
The shelter sits at a crossing point of two major mountain routes: the Alta Via 1 and the Via Alpina. This positioning makes it a vital rest stop for trekkers traversing long-distance trails through the Dolomites.
