Nuvolau

Nuvolau is a 2,574-meter peak in the eastern Dolomites characterized by dramatic limestone rock formations. From the summit, visitors can see surrounding mountain ranges and valleys stretching across the landscape.

A mountain shelter was built on the summit in 1883 and served as a strategic observation post during conflicts between Italian and Austrian forces. The structure reflects the mountain's role as a key location during this contested period.

The mountain serves as a gathering place for hikers seeking connection with Alpine traditions and local mountain culture. The rifugio at the summit welcomes visitors to share regional dishes and stories with fellow travelers.

Multiple hiking trails approach the summit from Passo Falzarego, while a chairlift operates in summer to shorten the climb. Starting early and bringing proper footwear and weather protection helps ensure a safe and comfortable visit.

Seven different marked routes intersect at the peak, creating a natural compass point for navigation across the eastern Dolomites. This convergence makes the summit a hub where multiple paths meet in the mountain network.
