Tofana di Dentro, Mountain summit in the Dolomites, Italy
Tofana di Dentro rises to 3238 meters as part of the Tofane mountain group and displays steep rock faces with exposed ridges along its slopes. The massif offers multiple climbing and skiing routes of varying difficulty for different skill levels.
The peak saw its first ascent in 1865 when mountaineer Paul Grohmann and local guide Angelo Dimai established the original route. During World War I, the summit became a contested zone with intense military operations across its terrain.
The mountain served as a key battleground between Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces during World War I. Visitors can still see traces of this conflict through fortifications and memorials scattered across the slopes.
Access to the mountain is available through the Bus de Tofana chairlift system, which transports visitors to intermediate elevations. Those heading to the summit or descending should have good weather conditions and solid alpine experience.
The North-Northwest face offers technical skiing with vertical descents exceeding 2000 meters through the Travenanzes valley. This route is favored by experienced freeriders seeking challenging runs at high altitude.
