Rifugio Sanremo, Mountain shelter in Triora, Italy.
Rifugio Sanremo is a mountain shelter in the Ligurian Alps sitting at 2054 meters elevation, located between Cima della Valletta and Monte Simonasso peaks. The building accommodates 30 guests on its upper floor and can be reached from La Brigue in France or from Briga Alta in Italy.
The shelter was founded in 1950 and expanded in 1984, receiving its dedication to Italian alpinist Agostino Gauzzi in 2012. This naming honored his significant contributions to mountaineering and the development of the Alpine region.
The refuge is run by the Club Alpino Italiano from Sanremo and serves traditional dishes from the Ligurian mountain region. Visitors can taste regional Alpine specialties prepared using time-honored recipes.
The shelter is located along a popular mountain trail and is most easily reached during summer when conditions are more stable. Visitors should bring good footwear and weatherproof clothing, as conditions at this elevation can change quickly.
The shelter sits along the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri long-distance trail and is the highest mountain refuge in the entire Liguria region. This location makes it an important landmark for hikers covering long distances in this mountain range.
