Torre Lanfreducci

Torre Lanfreducci, Medieval tower house in Pisa, Italy

Torre Lanfreducci is a rectangular tower rising through seven floors with varying ceiling heights, built from gray stone up to the fifth level and red brick above. This structure occupies a space inside the courtyard of Palazzo alla Giornata on Lungarno Pacinotti.

This tower was built in the second half of the 12th century as part of medieval Pisa's urban development. Construction continued into the 14th century when additional brick sections were added, showing how the building evolved over generations.

Different window styles mark each level of the structure, from plain rectangular openings to decorated bifora windows with stone columns. These varying designs show how artistic tastes and construction techniques changed as the building grew.

This tower sits inside the courtyard of Palazzo alla Giornata along Lungarno Pacinotti. Be aware that it occupies a private courtyard space, so views from the street offer the clearest look at its structure and materials.

The west side displays a visible outline of a medieval pointed-arch drainage system from the building's original engineering. This feature reveals how medieval builders solved practical problems like water management in their structures.
