San Nicola, Romanesque church in Pisa, Italy

The San Nicola church displays stone carvings and decorative elements, with an octagonal bell tower that stands near the main structure.

The church first appeared in documents from 1097, and between 1297 and 1313, the Augustinians expanded the building on its eastern side.

The interior contains artworks including panels of Madonna with Child by Matteo Traini and paintings depicting Saint Nicholas protecting Pisa.

The church connects to Torre De Cantone through a covered passage, providing direct access to the Palazzo delle Vedove without street exposure.

The octagonal bell tower, dating from 1170, ranks as the second most recognized tower in Pisa and sits below current street level.
