Val di Luce, Mountain valley in Tuscany, Italy
Val di Luce is a mountain valley in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines where dense fir forests cover the lower slopes and give way to alpine meadows at higher elevations. The terrain extends across several kilometers and shows how the landscape changes as you climb higher.
The valley remained thinly settled until 1935 when engineer Lapo Farinati Uberti purchased the land and began developing it for tourism. This purchase marked the beginning of the infrastructure that would later shape the place.
Mountain lodges here serve traditional dishes from the Tuscan-Emilian border region using age-old cooking methods. When you eat at these places, you experience how local people have sustained themselves in these highlands.
The ski area offers approximately 50 kilometers of slopes across different difficulty levels, served by 17 lifts and divided into three main zones for beginners and intermediate skiers. Plan for varying conditions depending on which elevation you visit.
The valley contains a glass pyramid structure housing a Crystal Pool, built as part of a mountain resort at about 1500 meters elevation. This modern building stands out distinctly against the surrounding terrain.
