Palace of Capodimonte, Royal palace in Naples, Italy

The Royal Palace of Capodimonte spans three floors across a hilltop location, featuring gray marble frames contrasting with Neapolitan red plastered exterior walls.

Construction of the palace started in 1738 under Charles of Bourbon, who selected Capodimonte's extensive woods to establish the Kingdom's independence from Spain.

The National Museum within the palace contains an extensive collection of Neapolitan paintings and artworks inherited from the Farnese family collection.

The palace grounds include 124 hectares of parkland with ancient trees, offering visitors multiple walking paths and garden areas throughout the year.

The palace served as both a royal residence and an art gallery since 1758, housing over 1,700 paintings before Napoleon's troops removed part of the collection in 1799.
