Torre del Grifo Village, Training facility in Mascalucia, Italy.
Torre del Grifo Village is a sports training facility in Mascalucia, Sicily, situated on the southern slopes of Mount Etna. It consists of several buildings that house training areas, residential accommodation, and dining spaces for athletes and participants.
The center was developed starting in 2009 and opened in 2011 as a training and education facility for athletes in Sicily. Its construction came at a time when sports infrastructure in southern Italy was growing.
The name of the facility refers to the griffin, a mythical creature that appears in Sicilian heraldic tradition as a symbol of strength. Visitors can notice this connection to local symbolism in the name and the overall character of the site.
The grounds are easy to explore on foot, as the pathways are mostly flat and straightforward to walk. In summer, temperatures on the Etna slopes can be high, so a morning visit tends to be more comfortable.
The facility sits close enough to the active volcano that athletes training outdoors can often see the summit of Etna on a clear day. This makes it one of the few training centers in the world located directly next to an active volcano.
