Cingino Dam

Cingino Dam is a concrete gravity structure rising roughly 49 meters high within the Parco Naturale dell'Alta Valle Antrona, where it creates a reservoir in the high mountain setting. The construction manages water flow and forms a central feature of the valley's hydroelectric infrastructure.

The dam was completed in the late 1920s and forms part of a larger system of reservoirs throughout Valle Antrona designed for power generation. Its construction was part of the region's broader hydroelectric development during that era.

The site has become a popular gathering place for photographers and nature observers drawn to watch Alpine Ibex interact with the steep stone surfaces. People come to witness how these animals navigate the dam's vertical walls as part of their daily behavior.

The site sits in remote mountain terrain and is best reached on foot via hiking trails that climb from Antrona Schieranco. Visitors should prepare for changing mountain weather conditions and expect uneven ground.

Alpine Ibex regularly scale the nearly vertical dam walls to lick mineral deposits from the stone surface. This behavior demonstrates their remarkable climbing abilities in extreme terrain.
