Fonte Nuova, Gothic fountain in Siena, Italy
The Fonte Nuova features three large arches with stone ornaments and a rectangular base built to supply water to the Vallerozzi district.
Architects Camaino di Crescentino and Sozzo Rustichini constructed the fountain between 1296 and 1303 as part of Siena's water distribution system.
The fountain represents the engineering solutions developed by medieval Sienese to address water supply challenges in their hilltop location.
Located outside the city walls, this fountain supplied both industrial operations and agricultural needs through its water channeling system.
The fountain combines elements of Italian Gothic and Cistercian architectural styles, displayed through its pointed arches and masonry work.
