College of the Augustales, Roman religious structure in Ercolano, Italy.
The College of the Augustales features a rectangular layout with two entrances and a main hall divided by four Tuscan columns supporting the roof.
The building served as headquarters for the priests of Emperor Augustus until Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, covering Herculaneum in volcanic material.
Members of the Augustales priesthood gathered in this structure to perform ceremonies and rituals dedicated to the worship of Roman emperors.
Visitors can access the building through the archaeological park of Herculaneum, entering from either Decumanus Street or Cardo III Street.
The remains of a college employee were found in his sleeping quarters, containing the only preserved brain matter from ancient Herculaneum.
