Santuario di Santa Maria dei Lumi

The Santuario di Santa Maria dei Lumi is a Romanesque sanctuary perched on a hilltop, combining a church building and monastic spaces in a single complex. The structure features a columned portico and an adjacent cloister that serves as a space for prayer and religious rituals.

The sanctuary was founded in 1466 by San Giacomo della Marca as a center of religious worship. Major restoration work in the 20th century preserved the building's structure for future generations.

The name refers to the veneration of Mary in light, a devotion expressed through religious practices that have continued here for centuries. Pilgrims come to pray before the wooden Madonna from 1489, which still holds a central place in the altar space.

The site sits on a hilltop, so comfortable footwear is important for the climb and exploration. Visiting during religious services allows you to experience the spiritual use of the space.

The presbytery and cupola contain frescoes by Pauri di Grottammare, adding artistic depth to the interior spaces. The left nave was expanded in the 19th century, revealing later architectural modifications.
