Hornspitzen, Group of mountains in Zillertal Alps, Austria and Italy
Hornspitzen is a mountain group comprising five distinct peaks stretching along the border between Tyrol and South Tyrol, reaching elevations up to 3253 meters. The chain forms a prominent feature of the Zillertal Alps with clearly defined summits.
The first recorded ascent of the third peak took place in 1874 when mountaineers Josef and Karl Daimer, with guide Stephan Kirchler, reached the summit. This achievement marked an important moment in the exploration of the range.
The mountain range connects two regions and reflects the Alpine heritage shared by Austria and Italy. Visitors encounter the border between Tyrol and South Tyrol as a natural feature of the landscape.
The mountains can be reached from Finkenberg in Austria or from Ahrntal in Italy via established hiking trails. Both sides offer multiple routes, primarily suited for experienced mountaineers.
The highest summit of the group offers views across both countries and their distinctive Alpine valleys on clear days. From this elevation, visitors can see how the landscape changes on each side of the border.
