Casa di Marco Lucrezio Fronto, Roman residence in Pompeii, Italy.
Casa di Marco Lucrezio Fronto is a Roman house in Pompeii featuring multiple rooms with black, red, and yellow wall paintings. The decoration includes scenes of daily life and mythological subjects that characterize the interior spaces.
The house was built in the 2nd century BC and underwent renovation work after the 62 AD earthquake. When Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, the renovation remained incomplete.
The wall paintings display gods, heroes, and hunting scenes that reveal how wealthy Romans enjoyed decorating their homes with mythological imagery. These frescoes show what kind of stories and figures mattered to the people who lived here.
The house is located in Regio V, Insula 4 and is accessed via a side street off Via di Nola. Visitors should be prepared for uneven ground and some narrow or low passages within the rooms.
Archaeologists found the remains of eight people in one room who had sought shelter here during the volcanic eruption. This sobering discovery stands in stark contrast to the fine artwork decorating the walls.
