Museo del Risorgimento e sacrario di Oberdan

The Museo del Risorgimento is housed in the first floor of a building distinguished by a square tower displaying the Italian flag. Inside, the space combines galleries with a commemorative chamber dedicated to patriotic history.

The building occupies the site of an 18th-century Austrian barracks where Italian patriot Guglielmo Oberdan was executed in 1882. Converting the location into a museum was a deliberate choice to preserve his memory.

The museum displays personal items and portraits connected to Italian patriots who fought for unification. Frescoes on the walls depict cities liberated after World War I, reflecting the building's role in that struggle.

The museum is located in central Trieste and easy to find from the street. Plan your visit in advance by checking opening hours or calling ahead, as visits may be limited or require arrangements.

Inside the building is the original cell where Oberdan spent his final days, a quiet and personal space. A monumental statue by Attilio Selva within the structure honors his courage and sacrifice.
