Tagliata Bariola, Military fortress in Valli del Pasubio, Italy.

Tagliata Bariola stands at 650 meters altitude along State Road 46, featuring a two-level casemate with the lower section positioned beneath the road level.

Built in 1880 to control passage from Pian delle Fugazze, the fortress was equipped with four 42mm Nordenfelt cannons, two 87mm cannons, and four Gardner machine guns.

The fortress represents Italian military engineering from the late 19th century, integrating stone construction methods to withstand close-combat grenades and artillery fire.

Visitors can access the interior through a window on the left side of the façade, where they will find a small basin and metal staircase leading to lower levels.

The fortification merges so seamlessly with the road infrastructure that many travelers pass by without noticing its presence in the landscape.
