La Lecciona, Beach in Viareggio, Italy
La Lecciona is a beach along the Tuscan coast with white sandy shores bordered by Mediterranean pine forest and natural dunes. The shoreline extends for several kilometers and contains different sections suited to various types of visitors.
A holiday village for Florence municipal employees stood on this beach area during the 1960s, featuring wooden bungalows and communal dining facilities. The facility was later closed and the site returned to its natural state.
The beach section between posts 13 and 15 received official naturist designation in April 2022 following advocacy by the Italian Naturist Association. Today this area serves as a gathering place where the local naturist community regularly connects and shares the shoreline.
A forest path of about 20 minutes connects the parking area near La Lecciona pizzeria to the beach and good footwear is helpful for this walk. Bring water and supplies as facilities are limited along the route.
This stretch of coastline remains one of the last natural sandy beaches in Tuscany, maintaining its original landscape without commercial development. Protection of the area is supported by the surrounding forest zone that prevents visitors from damaging the fragile dunes.
