Fiume Tescio

The upper section of Fiume Tescio is a protected river area in the province of Perugia that flows through natural terrain with diverse aquatic habitats and woodland along its course. The water and surrounding vegetation create an environment that supports many different animal species.

This river section was added to the European Natura 2000 network in 2014 to protect its natural habitats and animal species from change. The designation as a protected area reflects the ecological importance of the waterway to the region.

Local communities along Fiume Tescio maintain traditional agricultural practices while adhering to environmental protection measures established by the Umbria region.

You can walk through this area on marked trails between Pian della Pieve near Assisi and Case Torre near Nocera Umbra. The paths are easy to follow and take you through the protected landscape.

The river is home to rare butterfly species and fish populations adapted to cold mountain waters. These species have disappeared from many other locations in the region.
