Torre dei Gualtieri in San Benedetto del Tronto

The hexagonal brick Torre dei Gualtieri rises 19 meters high with thick defensive walls, narrow windows, and a clock on its eastern facade.

The Bishop of Fermo authorized the Gualtieri family to build this defensive tower in 1145 as part of a castle complex overlooking coastal areas.

The Torre dei Gualtieri, designated as Italian national heritage, functions as an exhibition space and hosts numerous cultural events throughout the year.

Visitors can access the tower through its ground-level entrance in Piazza Sacconi, replacing the original elevated entrance at 6 meters high.

The tower features double buttresses and walls reaching 1.7 meters in thickness, demonstrating advanced medieval military engineering techniques.
