Sasuke Inari Shrine, Shinto shrine in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan
Sasuke Inari Shrine is a Shinto sanctuary dedicated to the deity Inari, located in the Sasuke area. The site features characteristic elements of such shrines, including torii gates, worship buildings, and stone statuary throughout its grounds.
Tradition holds that Minamoto no Yoritomo founded the shrine after an old man from the Hidden Village of Kamakura appeared in a dream during his exile in Izu and told him when to rise against the Taira. After his victory he chose the site and had Hatakeyama Shigetada build the hall. A 1359 record shows Ashikaga Motouji ordering prayers here, and in 1909 the shrine became independent.
The shrine sits in the Sasuke district, a short walk from Zeniarai Benzaiten Ugafuku Shrine, so the two are easily visited together. The approach is lined with many red torii and involves climbing a hillside path, so allow time for the slope. The grounds are compact and best covered on foot.
