Takaido Station, railway station in Suginami, Tokyo, Japan
Takaido Station is an elevated railway station in Suginami, Tokyo, built above ground on pillars with a simple, functional design featuring a single island platform serving two tracks. It is part of the Keio Inokashira Line connecting Shibuya and Kichijoji, with about eight trains per hour in each direction.
The station opened on August 1, 1933, and has served as a key transport point for the local community ever since. In 1972 it was rebuilt as an elevated station, and in 2013 it received a new numbering system coded IN12 to help travelers navigate more easily.
The name Takaido refers to an old trade route, but the station itself serves as a modern gathering point in a quiet residential neighborhood. Here neighbors and commuters meet at a practical hub that connects the community without being imposing or intrusive.
The station has easy-to-use ticket machines and clear signage that makes navigation straightforward even for first-time visitors to the area. A shopping center called Keio Retnade sits directly below the station, offering shops and restaurants where you can spend time while waiting or grab something before boarding.
The Keio Retnade shopping center below the station was renovated in 2006 and brings activity to the area by blending daily shopping with train travel. Nearby Shimo-Takaido is completely different and sits in a different ward, showing how places with similar names can have distinct characters.
