Wing Stadium Kobe, Multi-purpose sports venue in Suma-ku, Kobe, Japan
Wing Stadium Kobe is a multi-purpose sports venue in Suma-ku, Kobe, built with three tiers of seating and two distinctive roof structures covering the main stands. The playing surface consists of natural grass and is surrounded by modern changing rooms, media facilities, and spectator areas.
The venue opened in 2001 and initially served as a host site for the Kobe Universiade international sports competition held in 1999. Over the following years, it became the home ground for Vissel Kobe and gradually received additional features to meet international competition standards.
The stadium takes its name from the two wing-shaped roof structures that shelter spectators during matches and create a recognizable profile visible from nearby neighborhoods. Local supporters gather in dedicated sections where organized fan groups lead chants and displays throughout home games.
The venue sits within Misaki Park and connects to central Kobe via the Seishin-Yamate subway line, making it accessible for visitors traveling from downtown areas. During major events, allow extra time for entry as crowds gather near the gates before matches begin.
The roof structures were designed to provide shade without fully covering the playing surface, allowing natural light to reach the grass for healthy growth. This architectural solution enables the venue to maintain optimal playing conditions without artificial lighting during daytime hours.
