Iwaizumi, Administrative town in Shimohei district, Japan.
Located in the Kitakami Mountains of northeast Iwate Prefecture, Iwaizumi spans 992 square kilometers with a small coastline on the Pacific Ocean.
The village, initially part of Mutsu Province under Nambu clan control during the Edo period, received formal town designation on August 1, 1922.
The town operates through a mayor-council system with ten council members, representing local governance traditions within Iwate Prefecture's administrative framework.
Iwaizumi manages five elementary schools, three junior high schools, and one public high school, serving the educational needs of its 8,006 residents.
