Toyooka

Toyooka extends over 697 square kilometers along the Sea of Japan coast, featuring the Maruyama River and surrounding mountains covered in snow during winter.

The city served as the center of ancient Tajima Province in the 8th century, housing the provincial capital and experiencing significant damage during the 1925 North Tajima earthquake.

The city maintains Japan's leading handbag production industry, manufacturing 80 percent of the country's bags through a tradition dating back to the early 700s.

The Sanin Main Line connects Toyooka to Kyoto by rail, with direct express trains reaching Osaka in approximately two and a half hours.

Toyooka's wetlands host the Oriental White Stork preservation program, which successfully restored the species after its extinction in the wild during the 1970s.
