Isumi, Coastal city in Chiba Prefecture, Japan
Isumi extends across 157 square kilometers of rolling hills and sandy beaches along the Pacific Ocean in the Bōsō Peninsula of Japan.
The area gained recognition during the Kofun period when it supplied abalone and pearls to the Yamato court under Emperor Ankan's reign.
Local temples Izunadera and Gyoganji preserve artworks by Nami no Ihachi, whose wave depictions influenced Japanese art history.
Visitors can reach Isumi from Tokyo Station via limited express trains to Ohara Station, connecting to the local Isumi Railway network.
The Tsurigasaki Beach in Isumi served as the venue for surfing competitions during the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
