Ubara Utopia

Ubara Utopia is a coastal hiking area within Minami Boso Quasi-National Park, featuring paved and dirt trails that connect multiple viewpoints overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The paths wind through natural terrain, offering different perspectives of the coastline and surrounding landscape.

The name was established in the late Taisho era when Sugihisa Goto planned to build a villa in this region of exceptional natural beauty. This development vision became an important part of how the location came to be known and visited.

Japanese poet Akiko Yosano found creative inspiration in this location, composing numerous works influenced by the surrounding coastal landscapes.

The site is easily reached with just a seven-minute walk from Ubara Station, following marked paths through residential areas and a connecting tunnel. The trails are well-marked and suitable for visitors of various fitness levels.

The coastline displays a distinctive ria-style formation around Cape Myojin with deeply indented bays and narrow passages. From elevated vantage points, visitors can observe sunrise over the Pacific, making it a memorable viewing experience.
