Ina, Mountain city in Nagano Prefecture, Japan
The city extends across 667 square kilometers between the Akaishi Mountains and Tenryu River in south-central Nagano Prefecture.
The region developed during the Edo period as both a castle town centered around Ina Castle and a transportation hub along the Tenryu River.
The former town of Takato within Ina received recognition as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in Japan for preserving traditional landscapes.
The city maintains 15 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, and 4 high schools, serving its population of approximately 68,000 residents.
The Komagatake Ropeway transports visitors to mountain viewpoints overlooking the Southern and Central Alps ranges that border the city.
