Mount Moriya, Mountain summit in Suwa and Ina, Japan.

Mount Moriya rises to 1,650 meters between Suwa and Ina cities in Nagano Prefecture, with dense forests covering its slopes. Well-maintained hiking trails wind through the wooded terrain and connect to both sides of the mountain.

This mountain has been important to people in the region since ancient times, as shown by burial sites and archaeological discoveries. Its long presence in local history shaped how communities developed around it over many centuries.

Local communities connect this mountain to the Onbashira Festival, where large logs are carried down the slopes to nearby shrines in ceremonial processions. Visitors can still see evidence of these traditions in the surrounding sacred sites today.

Multiple routes lead to the summit with clear trail markings visible throughout the hike. Hikers should prepare for changing weather conditions and wear sturdy footwear for uneven terrain.

Local farmers watch cloud patterns around the peak to predict rainfall, a tradition passed down through generations. This natural weather method remains part of their daily observation practices even today.
