Honnō-ji is a temple of the Nichiren School of Buddhism located in Kyoto.
It's globally recognized for Honnō-ji incident where daimyo Oda Nobunaga was forced to commit suicide during a coup attempt by his samurai general Akechi Mitsuhide in 1582.
Honnō-ji is famous for its magnificent painted sliding doors called fusuma.
Guided tours of the temple are available and popular among history enthusiasts.
The site holds an annual memorial service in June to commemorate the Honno-ji Incident.
