Kumagaya Station, Railway interchange station in Kumagaya, Japan
Kumagaya Station is a multilevel railway hub in Kumagaya with three island platforms and one side platform, serving both the Joetsu Shinkansen and regional trains on the Takasaki Line. The upper level carries high-speed trains while the lower tracks handle local services.
The station opened on July 28, 1883, as part of the Takasaki Line, connecting Kumagaya to Ueno Station in Tokyo. Additional lines were added in later years, including high-speed Shinkansen service.
The station displays a statue of Naomi Kumagai from the Heian period and a boy holding a baseball, representing local military and sports heritage.
The facility handles more than 40,000 passengers daily, who transfer between JR East lines and the Chichibu Railway. Coin lockers and shops are available inside the station building.
The station sits roughly 65 kilometers from Tokyo and links regional trains at ground level to Shinkansen tracks above. A statue inside the building honors Naomi Kumagai, a figure from the Heian period.
