Takaoka District, Administrative district in Kochi Prefecture, Japan
The district spans 1,527 square kilometers across mountainous terrain and contains seven municipalities including Nakatosa, Sakawa, and Shimanto towns.
Established on January 4, 1879, Takaoka District underwent substantial changes through municipal mergers, including the 2006 formation of Shimanto town.
The district maintains traditional agricultural practices, with local communities cultivating rice fields and managing forest resources throughout the mountainous landscape.
Transportation within the district relies on the JR Dosan railway line, which connects the towns of Hidaka, Sakawa, and Nakatosa.
The Shimanto Yusuhara Wooden Bridge Museum displays regional construction techniques through architectural elements designed by Kengo Kuma.
