Tokoname, Ceramic production city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan

Located on the western coast of the Chita Peninsula facing Ise Bay, Tokoname spans 55.90 square kilometers with a population of 57,872 inhabitants.

The region established over 3,000 ceramic kilns during the Kamakura period and remained under the control of the Owari Domain throughout the Edo period.

The Tōei kiln, constructed in 1887, stands as the largest climbing kiln in Japan and holds the designation of Important Tangible Cultural Property.

The city connects to Nagoya through Meitetsu train services and houses the Chubu Centrair International Airport, providing regional and international transportation links.

Tokoname leads Japan in the production of traditional teapots and Maneki-neko ornaments, with numerous ceramic pieces embedded in the streets of Dokan-zaka.
