Chūō-ku, Administrative ward in Niigata, Japan

Chūō-ku extends across 37.75 square kilometers in northern central Niigata, bordering the Sea of Japan with a population of 181,236 residents.

The area transformed from a section of Echigo Province into a vital trade port following the 1858 Harris Treaty, leading to its designation as a ward in 2007.

The Furumachi district contains traditional shopping areas along Masaya-koji street, connecting local markets and commercial establishments to Niigata Station.

The ward houses the City Office, multiple government agencies, educational institutions, and serves as a transportation hub with access to the Jōetsu Shinkansen line.

The Bandai Bridge, Niigata City History Museum, and Hakusan Park form a network of landmarks across both sides of the Shinano River.
