Asago Art Village, Sculpture garden in Asago, Japan.
Asago Art Village is a sculpture park spanning ten hectares across the Tataragi Valley in Japan. It displays contemporary artworks distributed across natural landscapes with maintained walking paths that guide visitors through the installations.
This art space opened in 2001 following several years of planning and development. A former power company office building was transformed into the museum and center of the park.
The space displays works from various artists within a natural setting, showing visitors how contemporary installations sit alongside the valley landscape. Rotating exhibitions bring fresh artistic voices to the grounds throughout the year.
Visitors can explore the grounds on foot, with paths that wind through the valley offering varying levels of difficulty. Wearing comfortable walking shoes is helpful since the terrain is hilly and viewing everything takes several hours.
The grounds were designed by a landscape architect who intentionally connected the art objects with the surrounding nature and the geographical features of the valley. This thoughtful integration makes the sculptures feel like they belong within the landscape rather than standing apart from it.
