Minowa Castle, Mountain castle in Takasaki, Japan

Located on a 30-meter hill at Mount Haruna's ridge end, Minowa Castle covers an area of 1200 meters by 400 meters in Takasaki's northwest.

Built in 1512 by the Nagano clan, the castle withstood a siege of 20,000 Takeda soldiers in 1566 before its garrison leader committed suicide.

The castle represents traditional Japanese defensive architecture with its masugata gate design, stone walls, and deep moats across forty-seven hectares.

The remaining stone walls, earthworks, and moats make up one of the largest castle sites in Gunma Prefecture, accessible for visitors to explore.

The Japan Castle Foundation selected Minowa Castle as part of the 100 Fine Castles of Japan in 2006 for its military significance.
