Higashiusuki district, Administrative district in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan
Higashiusuki is a district in southeastern Kyushu with four municipalities: Kadogawa, Morotsuka, Shiiba, and Misato. The area features hilly and mountainous terrain with scattered villages and rural settlements.
The area originated in 19th-century administrative structures when local governance was established. Over generations, the region maintained its rural character while gradually evolving.
Each municipality within the district celebrates local festivals and ceremonies that reflect traditions and the rhythm of seasonal change. These gatherings show how people here connect their customs to everyday life.
The region connects via rail to other parts of Kyushu and provides access to nearby airports. Visitors can reach the villages by local transport or private vehicle through winding roads surrounded by forest.
The district contains Shiiba, a village in an especially isolated location that preserves traditional rural ways of life. This remote setting has allowed the village to keep traditional crafts and daily practices alive.
