Minami-ku, Administrative ward in Sapporo, Japan

Minami-ku extends over 657 square kilometers, making it the largest ward of Sapporo with mountains, forests, and thermal springs.

The ward gained official recognition in 1972, coinciding with the Winter Olympics where multiple sports competitions took place in the Makomanai area.

The Jozankei district maintains traditional Japanese bathing practices with multiple thermal spring establishments serving local residents and visitors.

Mount Moiwa provides winter sports facilities and an observation platform, while Makomanai Park contains an ice arena and stadium for year-round activities.

Seventeen mountains, including Mount Yoichi at 1488 meters, stand within the ward boundaries, alongside sections of Shikotsu-Toya National Park.
