Shimizu, Administrative town in Sunto District, Japan
Shimizu spans 8.81 square kilometers at the northern end of Izu Peninsula, with the Kakita and Kano Rivers flowing through its territory.
The area transformed from tenryo territory during the Edo period to become Shimizu town in 1889 through the merger of 11 small hamlets.
The town adopted Yusui-kun, an elf character wearing a Mount Fuji hat, as its mascot to represent the connection with Kakita River.
The town maintains three elementary schools and two junior high schools while serving as a residential base for workers in Numazu and Mishima.
Shimizu maintains international connections through sister city relationships with Miaoli City in Taiwan and Squamish in British Columbia, Canada.
