Nasu district, Administrative district in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan
Nasu district is an administrative division in Tochigi Prefecture consisting of two separate towns divided by the city of Otawara. The area stretches across mountainous terrain with a population of around 40,000 people.
The district was established in 1878 and underwent major restructuring in 2005 when several towns merged to form new administrative entities. These mergers significantly changed the region's organization.
The district maintains strong connections to Japanese traditions through its hot springs, known as onsen, which attract visitors throughout the seasons.
The region is easily accessible via the Tohoku Main Railway Line with direct train connections. The mountainous terrain means attractions spread across the area, so allow time for travel between locations.
Mount Nasu, an active volcano with multiple peaks, dominates the landscape and draws visitors year-round with skiing in winter and hiking trails in other seasons. The mountain is the defining feature that shapes how locals and tourists experience the region.
