Rokujizō Station, Railway and metro station in Uji, Japan
Rokujizō Station comprises three separate stations operated by different companies with elevated, underground, and surface-level platforms. The facility connects multiple major transport lines serving the region.
The Keihan line opened the first station here in 1913. JR West connections arrived in 1992, followed by the subway extension in 2004.
The name Rokujizō refers to six Jizō statues, which hold meaning in Buddhist tradition. It serves as a connection point for visitors heading to Uji's temples and historical sites.
Each section maintains separate facilities, with some areas featuring platform screen doors and wheelchair-accessible elevators. Navigation can be confusing due to multiple operators, so follow signage carefully.
This station is the only Kyoto Municipal Subway station located outside the official city boundaries. Despite this, it plays an important role in the prefecture's transport network.
