Tamamura

Located at the northern end of the Kanto plains, Tamamura stretches across 25.78 square kilometers with several rivers flowing through its territory including the Tone River.

Following the Meiji Restoration, Tamamura was officially established on April 1, 1889, and later expanded by incorporating the neighboring villages of Shibane and Joyo.

The population of Tamamura participates in regional celebrations, maintaining ties with neighboring communities through festivals and traditional performances in Gunma Prefecture.

The town contains five public elementary schools, two middle schools, and one private elementary school, while being connected to major routes through the Joshin-etsu Expressway.

The town experienced significant demographic changes, reaching its peak population of 37,522 residents in 2000 before declining to 36,054 by 2020.
