Moriyama-ku, Administrative ward in Nagoya, Japan
Moriyama-ku is an administrative ward on Nagoya's northeastern side with a mix of residential neighborhoods and green spaces. The Aichi Prefectural Forest Park anchors the area and provides tree-covered walking grounds for visitors.
The area was formed from several villages in the Higashikasugai District and merged into Nagoya in 1963. Archaeological finds from the Jomon period show that people settled in this region thousands of years ago.
The ward houses several educational institutions, including Nagoya International School, Kinjo Gakuin University, and Aichi Prefectural College of Nursing and Health.
The area is well served by railway lines from Central Japan Railway Company and Meitetsu services. The Tomei Expressway provides quick highway access for those traveling by car between neighborhoods and beyond.
The ward transformed from separate villages in the Higashikasugai District during the Meiji period to its current status through annexation by Nagoya in 1963.
