Kamifukuoka, Former municipality in Saitama Prefecture, Japan
Kamifukuoka was a municipality in Saitama Prefecture comprising residential neighborhoods and commercial zones spread across a modest area. The region featured rail connections linking it to surrounding cities and towns in the region.
Kamifukuoka originated as a village in 1889 during the Meiji period reforms and underwent administrative changes that raised its status first to town in 1960 and then to city in 1972. In 2005 it merged with Oi town to form Fujimino city.
The municipality maintained traditional Japanese community structures through local festivals and gatherings until its merger with Oi town to form Fujimino city in 2005.
Today visitors can explore the area where this former municipality once stood by using local rail connections that still serve the region. It helps to carry a local map or guidebook to understand the historical boundaries and locate landmarks marking the former administrative zones.
Throughout its administrative changes, Kamifukuoka held three different Japanese names: 福岡村 (village), 福岡町 (town), and 上福岡市 (city), reflecting its municipal evolution.
